The developers themselves say that Sublime text is “a sophisticated text editor for code, markup and prose”. Though it might not seem like it, the topic of Linux text editors is a huge deal. Debates on which one is the best have been going on for years. Everyone has an opinion; everyone has a favorite, a certain one they absolutely swear. There is no doubt there are dozens of text editors to choose from.

I'm not sure I prefer the command line, but I use it a lot and yes, I use mplayer too just because it's so simple. I have a big folder of podcasts that I delete after play, so I can just cursor up, change 'mplayer' to 'rm' and poof, deleted. On to the next one. There's a larger Linux crowd compared to Windows or Mac OS crowd who prefer CLI. The command-line is typically more distro and version agnostic. Text Editor For Mac OsFor example, I prefer to copy files around using rsync. I can use it, and use it the same way ( rsync -aPh), on my home server running Ubuntu, on my desktop running Fedora, on my Macbook running OSX, and on my Western Digital NAS. I can use Git the same way on my Macbook that I use it when ssh'd into a server, or that I use it when I'm using a lab computer with Ubuntu. Though, honestly, my preference is mixed-mode operation, where I have multiple terminal windows open on a desktop, along with web browser windows and a good GUI text editor (e.g., Geany or TextWrangler).
